Internet Explorer 8 blocks access to Windows Update

If you had any doubt that Internet Explorer 8 beta 1 was released as a developer preview and wasnt really meant for general consumption, consider this: You cant access using Internet Explorer 8. If you try to visit the Windows Update page, youll get a message telling you that you need to use Internet Explorer 5 or later. Microsoft plans to add IE8 support to its software update page, but its not available yet. In the meantime, you can get your updates by clicking the Emulate IE7 button in IE8 and restarting your browser. [via ]

Thanks for the tip. Double thanks for sparing us the lol microsoft that has been accompanying this elsewhere!
I have IE8 and updates work just fine.
All above is true, but you can prevent this installing microsoft user agent string utility and then start it. After restart of your browser you can use MS Update site.
It really shouldnt require IE anyway. Im glad that in Vista they did away with accessing Windows Update through a browser anyway. I wish theyd backport that feature to XP.
I installed IE8 three times and I never even got to use it once...it keeps crashing repeatedly after every install
